This auction is for a beautiful 15ct buckle ring in good condition.This ring dates from the Victorian period & has a full set of 15ct gold hallmarks to the inner shank, along with a sponsors mark of J.W.B which may well be that of J.W Benson - A renown jewellery maker of the period.The ring has an embossed type patterning which runs around the entire outer shank, and is of a solid sturdy manufacture.The ring measures 10mm at its widest point (the buckle) & the band tapers from 6.8mm (t...op of the shank) to 6.1mm (bottom of the shank) only a very slight graduation.There are some ever so slight surface markings to the ring from general ware over the years - this is to be expected with a piece of such age.When I purchased the ring there were very clear signs that it had been worn next to another ring, as there were angled edges worn into the sides. This was most unfortunate & in my opinion greatly reduced the value & desirability of the ring. I instructed my goldsmith to very carefully polish these angled edges to make them disappear, and the ring now shows little or no sign of rubbing as it did before. It shows no sign of adjustment & has retained its weight - A healthy 5.3 grams.Generally speaking, any interference with antique jewellery is a negative but in this case I think an extremely worth wile exercise.
