It was made pre-WWI in Sheffield, England by Challenge and a finer steel you will not find--ideal for honing the finest knives in the world. With its long 10.25" finely ridged rod (17.25 if you count the ring), It's fitted with a gorgeous handle made from a single piece of solid wood that appears to be maple, capped by a swiveling ring finial on one end and a pewter bolster on the other--a masterpiece. Often hung on a butcher's block or wall, but usually at a butcher's SIDE, dangling from his apron, this is a special steel and will function as beautifully as it looks. It is further made special by the beauty and detail of its craftsmanship and materials--world class in every way. It's in excellent, perfectly usable condition, and the handle has no chips or loosness, which is rare for a piece like this. This is ideal for the serious chef or butcher who uses their knives a lot, and wants them perfectly bright and razor sharp on every stroke. A few passes on this will hone the edge without taking away more steel than is absolutely necessary, thereby preserving the life of a fine blade for MANY years of faithful service. Int'l shipping rates posted in our ads include a minimum $5.00 handling (sorry, even Canada, due to tedious Customs forms and Post Office procedures) to cost of actual shipping, with acceptable payment on international transactions in the form of paypal only. If you can only pay via some other method, email us prior to bidding. International packages will be calculated on the basis of a MINIMUM ONE POUND weight. International packages cannot be insured and we cannot be held responsible for packages lost or damaged in transit (we pack very well, but shipping overseas is strictly at buyer's risk). Want tracking? You will have to pay an additional $13.65 for Registered Mail or you may upgrade to the option of Express Mail International. IMPORTANT: After TWELVE YEARS of doing everything we could to hold the line on int'l. shipping costs, we have taken our LAST loss, so we've been forced to implement a new policy in which Shipping costs on ANY international parcel sold for over $75 will now include a required $13.65 Registered Mail fee in order to make your purchase trackable. This is 100% non-negotiable. The cost will be factored into the posted shipping costs of any item that STARTS at $75 or more, but if you purchase several items, the charge will have to be added at the end. Again, this is NON-NEGOTIABLE.We have NO control of your parcel once it has been shipped, and in our Post-9/11 world, your own nation's Customs may cause lengthy delays in delivery time.
