This salad set pattern showing a most beautiful virgin nymph and the love god Cupid is in excellent condition with the pattern front and back crisp and sharp. The pieces measure 10-1/4” long and weigh in at 228 gr. for the fork and 247 gr. for the spoon. The pieces are marked on the back with Reed & Barton’s eagle-R-lion and sterling. There are no monograms nor sign of monogram removal. The pattern of this piece is mo...st often described as a mother and child, and that is good, but the arrow the child is gripping says Cupid. And, the bow that Cupid’s captor is holding in her left hand completes the story“Love Disarmed” based on Shakespeare’s Sonnet 154 about disarming Cupid. Can’t tell where Cupid’s quiver might be.
The Love Disarmed pattern came out in1899.
Reed & Barton began in 1834 by taking over a firm established in1824 in Massachusetts, and operated until 2015.
