Original Description:
This is a RARE ROUND of "FOSSILIZED WOOD" called "HALITE WOOD".  It came from the Petrified Forest in Sweet Home, Oregon and is very unique.  The camera didn't pick up the crystals that well but it has a sparkle of them.  This wood is found in a small area near the village of Holley in Oregon.  The wood dates to the Oligocene Period and was then washed into a salt lake.  As the water of the lake evaporated, salt crystals formed in the wood. To the east of the l...ocality is a volcanic series.  In volcanic outbreaks the former lake was covered with ash and the petrification process started and with it the conversion of the salt crystals.  This piece weighs over 3 pounds and measures approximately 6 3/4" x 5" x up to 2".  Successful bidder pays $13.00 S&H.  International shipping rates will vary.
