USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides, is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy. She is the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat. She was launched in 1797. Constitution is most noted for her actions during the War of 1812 against the United Kingdom, when she captured numerous merchant ships and defeated five British warships. USS Constitution’s 1927-1931 restoration in the Charlestown Navy Yard was the first 20th century dry docking of this ship. It was also the first time that souvenirs made from discarded materials from the ship were sold to the public to raise funds for repair work. These souvenirs, made from wood, copper, rope and other materials, were sold not only to raise much needed funds, but were also part of the campaign to reestablish "Old Ironsides" as an important historic American icon. Items such as this were used by the U.S. Navy to promote a variety of souvenirs for sale, including bookends, miniature cannon, ashtrays, plaques, and more. Total Length 6.25" x 4.5" Diameter.
In Very Good Condition.
