Here is a magnificent antique French tapestry depicting a hunting seen deep in a french forest in an idyllic Arcadian setting. Amazingly fine stitch work, very delicate, with plenty of fine detail in rich tones of greens and blues, this tapestry measures over 5 ft. 8 in. by 2 ft. 4 in. (175 cm x 75 cm). This lovely tapestry dates from the late 1940's. Its central theme is the object of the hunt: a large Stag standing in the mid...dle of a stream surrounded by hounds. There is a hunter blowing a horn, and an aristocratic lady mounted on her steed looking on. The seen is typical French Acadia with a village in the back and a watermill. The forest is full of luscious foliage and the stream is highly detailed with its swirls of water.
