Up for auction is this very rare Kelmet Big Boy pressed steel steam shovel toy from the late 1920's. Still has the Big Boy logo decal intact behind the steam boiler. Measures about 20" long by 13" high to the top of the boom. The swinging scoop has a crank ratchet take-up spool on the platform that swings the scoop upward with a string (which has been replaced with a shoe lace). A string is missing that would normally attach to the boom down to the scoop door flap keeper that would ope...n up when the boom raised, in order to empty the scoop. Has typical wear considering how hold this piece is and has thick gauge formed steel to last. Looks like it may have been painted gold a long time ago. It rotates very well. It could use a cleaning but I didn't attempt to do so as I didn't know if that would harm the value of this old toy. A cool rare antique toy!
