Click images to enlarge Description Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful vintage 1960's Gemma Taccogna papier mache wig-head sculpture! Gemma Taccogna, born in 1923 in Italy, is a world renowned papier mache artist. Glamorous Hollywood personalities, including Mary Tyler Moore, commissioned work from Gemma. Some of her most charming pieces were created in the 1960s from her studio in Mexico. This lovely bust is finely and intricately crafted and molded of paper mache. The bust is painted a soft shade of mustard yellow with a lovely patinated finish. The face of the bust is delicately painted and portrays a young woman with long eyelashes and painted red lips, with a small heart below her right eye. The figure is "wearing" a geometrical red painted necklace with red flowers. The piece is signed on the bottom "Gemma Taccogna Mexico". Sculpture presents well and is in good vintage condition, with minor wear/patina and small losses to painted finish commensurate with age. There is some stable separation of the seamline along the top of the head and down the left side (these were originally made in 2 halves that were glued together and they tended to separate over time); and there is some common loss to painted finish along the seam and around the base (which was also originally glued on). This whimsical and one-of-a-kind piece will add retro mod style and fun to any interior! Fresh to the market!
