Thisis a9" statueof Saint Pope Piux X, bornGiuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, June2, 1835.Hewas headof the Catholic Church from August 1903 to his death in 1914, and was the 257th Pope. PiusXis known for vigorously opposing modernist interpretations ofCatholic doctrine, promoting liturgical reforms and orthodoxtheology.Thereare no markings to indicate an artist. Onthe front pediment it is inscribed {S.PiusX}. The material could be terracotta or chalkware, but is unknown.
PopePius X is dress...ed in a cream colored cassock, which is secured downthe center with light blue buttons. There are also light bluehighlights to the cassock throughout. The pope is wearing a skull cap and red shoes. He has his righthand held up in the form of a blessing. Around his neck is alarge chain and cross, gold in color with blue and red accents.
