1911 Elgin National Watch Company 15 Jewel Gilt Nickel Finished Quick Train movement Grade 317 Full Plate Size 18s Key wind and Key set Pocket Watch serial number 15, 787, 092. Polished FAHYS Oresilver Open Case custom engraved for C. G. Bradford. A pocket watch chain with a clip. Runs Well.Elgin National Watch Co. dial customized with running horses in very good condition. Polished FAHYS Oresilver No. 1 Open Case engraved for Mr. C.G. Bradford. Crystal Glass without any scratche...s. Clean movement for a watch of 109 years old! Winds and sets with as it should (Pull the crown for time set up, press the crown down for winding). A Pocket Watch Chain with belt clip is included. Runs strong but was not timed for accuracy and reliability, so some service may be needed.Elgin National Watch Company was founded in 1864, right as the civil war was coming to an end. The first watch Elgin was finished in April of 1867 and over the next 100 years, they went on to produce about 60 million mechanical watches. (Elgin brochures are added for interest only and are not part of the listing). Joseph Fahys & Co. was founded in 1857 in New York. Joseph Fahys was a French emigrant. Joseph Fahys & Co. is most famous for their production of the Dust Proof Cases during the 1880's. The company's handmade gold and silver cases are sought after and highly collectible today.Elgin was originally called the "National Watch Company". The name never really stuck and in 1874, they changed their name to the "Elgin National Watch Company" because most of the watch trade and public were calling them "watches from Elgin".
