This advertised discounted tickets on the Shasta Route (San Francisco north to Portland, OR) for $1 per 100 miles traveled, purchased between Feb. 20 and 27th of 1931. In the shape and size of a United States large sized banknote, 7-7/8" by 3-3/8". They issued such "notes" for at least several different periods in the early 1930's, to try to get some traffic on this less heavily traveled lines. I would say very scarce, as much because most would have been thrown away after serving their purpose of stimulating a ticket purchase. This was obviously saved as a souvenir. The first I have seen even having lived in the area served by this line for close to 40 years. I have noted others of different dates/periods having been sold, however I could not find another for this exact span of Feb. 1931. Obvious signs of folding and having been carried in a wallet, some soiling mainly on the Reverse, however sound overall.
