Vintage L. J. Peretti 200 Briar Estate Pipe

This was one of those pipes that I almost, and I mean almost, did not want to polish. Most of my pipes, if I really love the natural charm of it, I will rub in some mineral oil with a rag for a matt finish. Don't get me wrong, the waxing looks great on it, but with the slight glare from the shine one misses the true charm of the grain. However, it is one of those few pipes that the picture does not do any justice because of the subtleties in the shape, the natural finish, the superb gr...ain, and all around solid feel of a good, sturdy pipe.  One thing I know about these old Peretti pipes is they are good smokers that appeal to even those with highest expectations. The main charm is the natural look of the briar, but the fact of the matter is that it is such a good smoker it is almost like having a secret weapon in the rotation. These old Peretti pipes perform. Everything is drilled in the right place to precision. The draw is perfect, a good draw that won't make you feel like you are trying to suck in smoke from a wind tunnel. The used top grade briar that looks and feels dense, and burns tobacco cool. It does not seem to have been smoked for a long time, but if this sits too long that could change fast. The chamber is just right. Not big, not small. The stem and shank have a nice, uniform curve that balances the pipe out, and seems it will distribute the weight of the pipe well when holding in the teeth. I could brag on the charm of this pipe all day, as it is a truly respectable estate pipe that a wise General would send to the front of the rotation.
