CRETACEOUS FOSSIL PLESIOSAUR TOOTH For sale are individual teeth from a plesiosaur. These iconic long-necked marine predators are often conflated with dinosaurs, although they are not technically dinosaurs, they are contemporaneous marine reptiles that are closely related to the dinosaur clade as are crocodiles and birds. These creatures first emerged in the late Triassic (around the time the first dinosaurs also appeared) as reptiles that returned to the sea from land. Early... plesiosaurs still had functioning legs that doubled as rudimentary flippers when transversing through water, but by the Cretaceous period (from which these teeth date) these legs had evolved into flippers and plesiosaurs had become pure marine-based animals.The plesiosaurs shared the fate of the dinosaurs 66 million years ago when an asteroid slammed into the earth during the KT-Paleogene extinction event that destroyed the vast majority of living species then in existance.Please see photo for typical examples of specimens you will receive.OTHER ITEMS FOR SALEWhy not check out my other listings for great deals on fossils, amber and other interesting specimens?
