Selmer Adolf Jackson was an American stage, film andtelevision actor. He appeared in nearly 400 films between 1921 and1963. His name was sometimes spelled Selmar Jackson. Mr. Jackson was bornin Mills, Iowa, on May 7, 1888 and died in Burbank, California onMarch 30, 1971 at age 85. He was married to Estil S. Jackson.
Jackson gained early acting experience in stock theater, workingwith groups such as the Des Moines Stock Company. Jackson's screendebut was in the silent film The Supreme Passion (1921). Mr. Jackson was an actor known for The Grapes of Wrath (1920), Left Over ladies (1931) and Undercover Agent (1939). In the 1930s and 1940s Mr. Jackson was a highly active character actor often seen in films because of his well-modulatedvoice. He was usually given roles involving authority or authoritativefigures such as; judges, lawyers, doctors, high-ranking government officialsor military officers and the like.
