This one is in Very Good Condition with No Chips, NOTE: the horns on the headdress are broken and the right arm is broken at the elbow (SEE pictures with pen). Very nice Ray Parkett kachina doll in the form of a buffalo warrior Hopi dancer with a rattle. This figurine is mounted on a wood round and accents the natural aspect of this carved wood figurine. The representation of a Deity is clothed in a white leather skirt with red and blue geometric designs around the skirt. He is also wearing leather arm bands with small white shells. The figurine has soft rabbit-like fur around its ankles, waist and on the horned headdress. The warrior has been painted to have red lips and dark brown accents. The base has been signed by Ray Parkett.
Traditionally, kachina doll were used ceremonially to teach and educate young girls and new brides on the spiritual deities important to the natural world, such as the bringers of rain and messengers of the gods. These figurines were crafted by males in the tribe and gifted during a ceremony as physical representation of the deities to be hung in the pueblo. This would continue to function as a teaching tool and a visual reminder of the forces important to their society.
This measures 19 5/8" High x 8 1/2" Wide from arm to arm x 6 1/2" Wide at the base. I have provided a lot of pictures to best describe the condition of this kachina doll.
