In the 1960s, this was one of the biggest rivalries among Kentucky high schools. Both have produced excellent players over the years. For instance, Paul Hornung, who played at Notre Dame and was a mainstay for the Green Bay Packers, played for Flaget in the early 1950s, as did Howard Schnellenberger. In this game was the St. Xavier quarterback, Dicky Lyons, who went on to star for the University of Kentucky. Flaget, which closed its doors forever in 1972, won this game 7-0.
