Up for auction is a [I think] 1937 Westinghouse floor radio that, in my opinion, is simply awesome. It is very similar to the radio that Ralphie and his brother listened to 'Little Orphan Annie' on, in the movie, 'A Christmas Story', which probably everyone has seen, at least once, given that it is has been broadcasted 24-7, for probably the last 15 years, at Christmastime. For the radio aficionados who will likely want to correct me, I KNOW, in advance, that this is not th...e EXACT radio, in the movie, at it has a speaker grille that looks a little different, but this is equivalent to comparing one 2010 Chevrolet Impala to a 2012 Chevrolet Impala ... basically the same car, with minor year-to-year changes. As far as THIS radio is concerned, I actually like it BETTER, than the one in the movie ... the pretzel-twist ends and center vertical columns of the grille are, in my opinion, more impressive. As far as its condition, as you can see, it is excellent. With minor restoration, this will be a show-stopper. I found it posted, on a Canadian website, through a Google search, in ~ 2011 / 12', called 'Kijiji', which is an offchute of eBay. The seller was from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, and inherited this radio from her father, who was the original owner ... he apparently listened to hockey games on it, all the time (as per her). She was up there, in age, and very old fashioned ... she refused to ship it to me, no matter how much I was willing to pay. Consequently, I drove out, from Illinois, in the Springtime, to pick it up ... it was a nearly ~ 24 hour trip, one way, and if I would have gone in the Winter, I probably would have drifted into a snow bank, being left for dead, until they pulled my out of a block of ice! My sacrifice is your gain, and rare opportunity to own this radio, as I have not seen many like them ... especially in this condition. Likely needs new tubes, as it does not transmit sound, but lights up. Service sticker, on the back, reads '1981'. I think it also has a "magic eye, " but it, too, also does not light up, at this time. Good luck! Please note: LOCAL PICKUP ONLY, unless you want to use your own courier (at your own expense), to have this gathered. Thanks!
