Very fine large YORUBA maternity figure presenting a female figure sitting on her knees, with a child on het back and holding an offering cup in her hands.
This wooden maternity offering statue is covered with copper and brass plates. Copper and brass are in the Yoruba community highly valuble. Therefor this is an important statue. Very fine work on the hairdress and in the face as well.
Such statues reserved for kings, chiefs and spirit mediums and fostered the ...fertility of humans, land and nature in general.
