One of four dolls I acquired from a retired U.S. intelligence officer who was stationed in Liberia in the early 1950’s. He stated that he saw a young girl with one, and he paid her father to make him four of them to bring back to the US.This type of doll was usually made by a father who would gift it to his daughter as a play thing. This type of doll is rarely found to survive. This one a...nd the other three are unusually rare, in that the mother figure has genuine hair instead of the woody husk of a root used on the daughter figure that was more commonly used; and further, they depict a mother carrying her daughter instead of the more common unitary figure. These dolls are extremely hard to find, even mention of them in the internet is rare. Surviving examples are almost all in museum collections.Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
