UNIQUE COLLECTIBLE WITH INTERESTING BACK STORY
Starting in the 1930s, The Fisher Body Company in Detroit, in conjunction with General Motors in Detroit and Oshawa where the Canadian Headquarters was located, ran a series of competitions i...n design and styling for teenage students. In the early years of the competition, contestants ordered a set of model plans to build a Napoleonic Carriage which was the signature logo of the company. The Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild became the major recruiting tool for young artistic talent. Each year twenty-four scholarships were awarded to boys between the ages of 12 and 16 in Canada and the United States.
In his 90s, my father (from Detroit) remembered these competitions and curiosity got the best of him. Were there any left around? He did find a kit and built it. Even though his vision was deteriorating, he paid unique attention to detail and was proud of his completed carriage. However one day an interested friend lost his balance and knocked the carriage from it's display. My father tried to put it back together but passed away soon after and I have had it in storage since then. And I cannot tell if any pieces are missing.
A skillful craftsman could probably repair it. I will pack it as carefully as I can but can't be responsible for any more damage to the fragile parts.
