We just acquired a large collection of early (pioneer) aviation images from the Keuka Lake, New York area. Much of it shows Glenn Curtiss of Hammondsport N.Y. There are images of planes, blimps, and motorcycle related images. Most are actual photos put non postcard formats.
This auction is for a cabinet card-sized real photo image of Glenn Curtiss with six other people, one of which is a woman. This image measures approximately 6 3/8” by 4 1/8”. One man in the image looks like mil...itary. They are standing at the shore of Keuka Lake, inspecting a fixed wing aircraft with two dummy aerial bombs in a canvas door chute. In pencil, on the back of the image reads “Langley or Lankey Machine.” It appears they are ready to test the aeroplane and drop on the lake. This image has a left corner crease. There is a piece of black photo album paper stuck on the back. This could very well be a quite historic early aviation image.
