Original Description:
Here is an appealing little snuffbox, that at some point in it's life was converted to another use, in that is is now a change purse. It is probably French, solid silver, and a relatively early box, having a 5 barrel complex hinge. The form is a beautiful scallop shell shape, and an acanthus leaf border along the hinge edge. There are 3 tiny touch marks on the inner rim, and they are so small I cannot make them out, as is typical of French marks. The lid of the box is inscribed with th...e initials "JM", or "TM". There is some bumps, dents and wear on the box but nothing horrific, and in photo number 5, you can see a small piece of the inner rim is gone and a couple of tiny cracks around the latch, the worst one going up along side the latch about 1/4". The hinge and the latch still function perfectly. The interior has been converted into a change purse, comprised of very fine leather with 2 dividers, for a total of 3 compartments. This conversion does not hurt the box in any way, as I have carefully taken the fitted purse body out of the box and the box was not harmed or altered in any way to give it this new purpose. There is an ink name inscribed inside the purse, Adele Renault, probably an early owner. The weight of the box is 19.8 grams without the fitted leather interior.
