The fluorite has an attractive clear pale green color in white light, show...ing an aggregate of sharp crystal forms, mostly octahedral with dodecahedral and cubic modifications. It contrasts nicely with a druse of glittering gold pyrite crystals. The fluorescence is lovely - the fluorite glows rich indigo blue under long and shortwave UV with some phosphorescence, plus pink calcite (SW) and mysterious spots of creamy yellow-white (SW) from tiny scheelite crystals. Huanzala fluorite is scarce and hard to get, rarely seen even at the big mineral shows.
NOTES ON ULTRAVIOLET:The higher quality the UV source, the better fluorescent minerals look. Key factors include lamp wattage, UV spectrum and filtration, as well as distance from lamp to specimen. For best results with any UV source, observe against a dark, non-fluorescent, non-reflective background, in complete darkness with eyes adapted. The photos here are taken using UV Systems SuperBright II (shortwave, midwave, longwave-350) and Philips BLB (longwave-370) lamps, metered and exposed to show fluorescent response to best advantage.
