Original Description:
American Needlework Sampler Jane Jordan's Work, 1808.  Likely from Pennsylvania.  This wonderful golden-period sampler is very large and presents well.  Professionally framed in a newer but nice (and appropriate) frame.  At the top reads "Jane Jordan's Work July 20 1808.  Followed by rows of letters and geometric designs.  Midway down the left box reads "Jane Jordan Daughter of Thomas and Mary Jordan Was Born March 22 1792".  The right box reads "Do y...ou my Fair Endevour to Possess An elegance of mind As well as dress".  At the bottom is a wonderful federal style house flanked with characteristic designs.  Over 200 year-old misspellings and all, a truly endearing work of folk art representing a relatively peaceful period in early American history between the two wars with the English.
Approximate dimensions: Sampler is 13" x 20".  With frame 17" x 24".
