· Condition: Good, on display in cabinet only. An attractive large miniatur...e 2-in-1specimen, almost a cabinet size, is filled with well-formed bright pink rhombohedralRhodochrosite crystals, with smooth and shiny surfaces when held under light. TheRhodochrosites continue to form through the matrix on the back. Also, five short stubby and prismaticquartz points are evident on the front of the matrix, perched alongside theRhodochrosites, with nice pointed uneven terminations and are striatedhorizontally. The Quartz points are transparent and very clear on the tips with nice inclusions.
This featured specimen has a densecluster of rhombohedral Rhodochrosite crystals with smooth surfaces and theyshine when held under light. They measure up to 0.5 cm in size and the color isan amazing bright pink, a shade of pink that is calming and also pleasing tothe eye. The colorless Quartz points are also amazing, especially the five that are upfront and center. They are not only intergrown with theRhodochrosites but are also perched above them, showing excellent transparency, with clear tips, nice inclusions and natural occurring cleavages; they also have nice pointed and uneventerminations and there is even one that is a twin with a double termination. Some minor abrasions along the edges and chisel marks on the rock matrix due to the excavation process. A gorgeous 2-in-1cluster specimen indeed, with its beautifulcolor, luster and form. The dark rock matrix is not only sturdy, it also givesit a good contrast and the crystals spread out on the back of the matrix alsosparkle under light. Specimen Background information:Rhodochrosite is a very aesthetic and desirable mineral; its deepred and hot pink crystals are highly sought after. Rhodochrosite is a member of theCarbonates and Calcite family, specificallyof the Manganese Carbonate variety. It is composed of Manganese carbonate, sometimes containing some iron, magnesium, calcium, zinc, and cobalt.Itcomes in beautiful shades of pink to red colors and the crystals have avitreous luster. It’s name is from the Greek rhodon -"rose" andchroma - "color", hence Rhodochrosite means rose-colored.Rhodochrosites have interesting crystal forms, mainly as rhombohedral andscalenohedral crystals. Dense clusters of rhombohedral crystals, as well asparallel bundles of scalenohedral crystals are common. Other habits arebotryoidal, grainy, radiating, stalactitic, and as veins.Quartz minerals are composed of SiO2silicon dioxide and occurs in basically all mineral environments, and is theimportant constituent of many rocks. Quartz is also the most varied of allminerals, occurring in all different forms, habits, and colors. Their colorsrange from colorless to white, purple, pink, brown, and black. Also gray, green, orange, yellow, blue, and red. Sometimes multicolored or banded. Theycan be transparent to opaque. Quartz crystals are unique and very identifiablewith their pointed and often uneven terminations. Crystals can be inenormous prismatic and stubby crystals, or inpointed aggregates of such crystals. Crystals are usually striatedhorizontally, and are sometimes doubly terminated. Quartz crystal habitsinclude druzy, grainy, bladed, as linings of geodes, as roundedwaterworn pebbles, radiating, as pointy pyramids on a matrix, asdense agglomerations of small crystals, massive, globular, stalactitic, crusty, in nodules, and in amygdules. Note: **Allspecimens are taken in natural and regular lighting only. This specimen looksbetter in person in order to appreciate its true natural color, shape and form, especially the sparkling effects and that bright shade of pink, which can bedifficult to capture in its entirety on camera. Please also note that the colormay be a little different due to the color calibration of each individualmonitor or light levels.**Aswith all genuine mineral specimens, there may be natural occurring inclusions, cleavages, formations and impressions, including imperfections and minor abrasions onthe edges due to the excavation process.
