This is a Meiji era (c. 1900) Japanese marble stone stamp known as an Inkan. This is two sided stamp with a different stylized calligraphy (see pictures). In Japan and China one does not sign, but rather stamp ones name with chop or inkan like this one. This is a very unique inkan in that it is all hand carved stone calligraphy on both sides.This inkan stamp measures 1 1/4" square by 3/4" tall (3 x 2 cm). Having been in storage for over a century, it remains... in fine condition.
