The first line of Zorky cameras
The first small-format cameras of the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant were the FED rangefinder cameras, which after some time received their own name "Zorky".
In October 1942, by order of the State Defense Commit...tee, the optical and mechanical production of the FED plant, No. 296 of the People's Commissariat of the Aviation Industry, evacuated to the city of Berdsk near Novosibirsk, as non-core, was transferred to the People's Commissariat of Arms, which included almost all the optical enterprises of the country
The main difference between the Krasnogorsk version of the FED and the original was in the standard lens - the folding Industar-22 was used. Some of the cameras were equipped with a ZK 2/50 lens, which was later named Jupiter-8.The focal range tolerances were tightened - 28.8 ± 0.03 mm, which made it possible to exclude the operations of individual lens adjustment and limited compatibility of interchangeable optics 2). In addition, work began to correct another drawback - reducing the laboriousness of adjusting the shutters when they were operated at short exposures, which turned out to be unstable. At the very beginning of the release, the camera was labeled as "FED". Then the brand of the plant was added to the sign of the manufacturer (Dove prism without ray path): "Zorky". This resulting double “name” (“FED-Zorky”) existed until March 1949 3), after which the factory mark became the name of the camera itself.Index "1" was not assigned to the camera, but the camera is often referred to as "Zorkiy-1"
