Such object s were used to boil water. This was found in Nigeria which is a prominent center for the production of metal casting in Sub-Saharan Africa. Nigeria has a long history of casting works in metal producing works of great skill and beauty. This tradition and practice continues to the present. Marvelous works in cast in copper alloys are known in central and southern Nigeria from as early as the 7th century found at the extraordinary archaeological site at Igbo Ukwu and reaching to Ife in the 12th century through the kingdom of Benin in the 15th followed by a number other important bronze casting centers that bring us to the present. It is difficult to locate its origin with certainty and can belong even to a contemporary Igbo group but most likely due to size and complexity and detailing of surface design should be considered an historical object dating back hundreds of years.
