Antique late 19th century free standing powdered soap dispenser. Hard to find item, scarce. Elaborate design elements. Heavy weighted cast iron base, ornate nickel plated brass scrolled upright support arm, nickel plated brass soap container, holder, chamber, dispenser & removeable lid, nickel plated brass weighted dispenser lever. The device is complete with all parts. I see no makers names or markings aside from a patent date of February 16, 1892. After researching the patent gra...nt date I discovered that the Patent was granted to a Mr. W. S. Fickett of Rochester NY USA. Patent issue # is 468, 868. Mr. Fickett was granted several patents pertaining to bathroom, lavatory, devices or accessories of the same era. At the side of the dispenser there is a weighted actuating lever that is loose from the dispenser actuating lever rod. It was merely pressed in place and has simply come loose after 127 years. The lever arm is all intact and can be pressed back into position. I did not attempt to repair the lever arm, I will let the buyer do as they wish. I found the lever arm stashed within the dispenser, lucky enough that it is still present to this day. The mechanism within that allows the soap to dispense does rotate as it should. The top lid is removable, notched for retention. The black in color cast iron base does exhibit some loss of finish with light corrosion in those areas. The nickel plate shows wear as well, darkening is quite obvious. Thereis 1 small stress crack in the brass at the base of the soap chamber at the side where the brass is rolled and crimped. All areas mentioned can be seen in the pics. This is a nice stable piece, no wiggles or looseness aside from the actuating lever. Overall height is 10 1/4", base measures 4 1/4" across, soap chamber is 2 3/8" across. Estate find from the Gowanda NY area. Please look at all of the pics, I can send additional pics. I will answer any questions that you may have to the best of my ability. I am reluctantly selling the hard to find item as is with no return. I will pack well so that it arrives safely at your door.
