Major John Andre hung as a spy at Tappan, NY, Oct 2, 1790 brought to a stand by John Paulding, Isaac Van Wart and David Williams. Andre had been commissioned to buy with gold what steel could not conquer; to drive a bargain with one ready for a price to become a traitor. His remains were afterwards transferred and buried in Westminster Abbey.
