This fantasticcard is one in a series of cards issuedby the H.J. Heinz Co. and was issued in 1936. One was insertedinto each package of Heinz Breakfast Wheat and Rice Flakes cereal. The series is designated as series F227-4 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue and is entitled“Famous Aviator Pictures” This serieswas issued from 1936-39. Only the 1936series is considered the 1st Series and is indicated by the “32236”print num...ber found on the back. Afterthe 1936 year, 5 of the cards werepulled and replaced in the set in subsequent years. (those have different printnumbers on the back indicating year of issue, and are considered the SecondSeries F277-4b in the A.C.C.). Findingthese true first series cards are tough. Eachcard features a beautifully illustrated image of the featured Pilot., while theback features advertising (and a rare premium map offer) and a brief bio. ofthe Pilot. This card is #3 in the seriesand Features EDDIE RICKENBACKER: Here issome information I found about him on the internet: Edward Vernon Rickenbacker (October 8, 1890 – July 23, 1973) was anAmerican fighter ace in World War I and Medal of Honor recipient. With 26aerial victories, he was America's most successful fighter ace in the war. Hewas also considered to have received the most awards for valor by an Americanduring the war. He was also a race car driver and automotive designer, agovernment consultant in military matters and a pioneer in air transportation, particularly as the long-time head of Eastern Air Lines. The Card measures 3 inches by 1 7/8 inches approximately. The card is free from creasing, and hasrelatively nice corners. I have scannedthe front and back of the card fairly large so you can determine the conditionfor yourself. Finding these first seriescards is tough. Don’t miss out.
