White Star Line: Nine publicity photos of White Star Line ships through the years. Many of the images are stamped on back with “Stewart Bale Photographers”, “Cunard-White Star”, or “Harland & Wolff Shipyard”. In chronological order, the oldest (8” by 10”) shows the OCEANIC of 1899. She would wreck in 1914 when her naval captain ignored the warnings of her civilian captain and impaled the OCEANIC on a reef. BALTIC of 1904 (6” by 9”) is show...n with Liverpool’s “Three Graces” in the background. An 8” by 10” OLYMPIC photo shows her primed for her maiden voyage and sporting shockingly few lifeboats. BRITANNIC of 1914 is sailing with full hospital livery with a jumble of lifeboats on top, all operated by those bizarre monster cranes (5” by 8”). MAJESTIC of 1922 is photographed at Southampton, circa 1936, laid-up and awaiting sale (5” by 9”). Two 5” by 8” aerials of BRITANNIC were taken around the time of her 1930 trials. The shows off her stubby yet appealing motorship lines. Finally, two 5” by 8” pics feature GEORGIC of 1932, White Star Line’s last ship. Image one shows her pre-WW2 with two squat funnels. Image two shows her post-WW2 with one funnel when she operated in austerity service. Very good condition.
