Original Description:
Today we are featuring an Antique tintype photograph from the 1860's thru 1870's. Tintype photo shows a few defects. Adds to patina. See photo. Photo measures 2.25" by 3.5" total. A tintype, also known as a melainotype or ferrotype, is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of iron coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion. Tintypes enjoyed their widest use during the 1860s and 1870s, but lesser use of the medium... persisted into the early 20th century and it has been revived as a novelty in the 21st.Tintype portraits were at first usually made in a formal photographic studio, like daguerreotypes and other early types of photographs, but later they were most commonly made by photographers working in booths or the open air at fairs and carnivals, as well as by itinerant sidewalk photographers. Because the lacquered iron support (there is no actual tin used) was resilient and did not need drying, a tintype could be developed and fixed and handed to the customer only a few minutes after the picture had been taken. The tintype's immediate predecessor, the ambrotype, was the same process using a sheet of glass as the support. The glass was either of a dark color or provided with a black backing so that, as with a tintype, the underexposed negative image in the emulsion appeared as a positive. Tintypes were sturdy and did not require mounting in a protective hard case like ambrotypes and daguerreotypes. If you are a collector, then this may be a nice addition to your collection of antique tintype photographs.Thank you for stopping by and having a look at our merchandise today.Feel free to come by and visit our EBAY STORE anytime... http://stores.ebay.com/eclecticaddictsatticHave a wonderful day!!!
Please read…I always have fun vintage items on auction and will gladly combine shipping so please check out my other auctions. Payment is expected within 48 hours unless you have notified me in advance. Please make sure you can follow through with your bid.  Nonpaying bidders are automatically reported.  Not that this warning stops the wrong do’ers, but please think before you bid. Strikes against your account affect your ability to place more bids on items and could lead to your account being suspended.  Do the right thing and always pay for your wins.As are almost ALL items we sell, this item is sold in used vintage condition which means by nature it is not perfect as it is a pre-owned and will show signs of wear, use, and age. It is not in new condition nor is it mint. We do not clean, repair, or polish items, we sell them as we find them. It is sold 'as is.' We work VERY HARD to describe each item in detail, including its imperfections. Our assessment of condition may differ from yours, this is the nature of buying something online/through the mail. Please ask questions prior to bidding (not after) as we conduct true auctions where sales are final, no returns, no refunds, no partial refunds or returns. Please note that the shipping quote is for the lower 48 states only. Other locations will have a shipping adjustment if actual shipping is over a few dollars. Please don’t hesitate to email me any questions.Let's keep everything simple please -- if you have a problem with something we send you, email us immediately -- within 24 hours of receipt as evidenced by USPS tracking -- in a COURTEOUS and PROFESSIONAL manner (which we will reciprocate), so we can reach a mutually agreeable resolution. If your communication is less than courteous or professional, we will be unable to assist you. We do not ever refund for buyer's remorse, or for loss/damage in transit (that's what insurance is for), no exceptions. In the event a postal claim needs to be filed it is the BUYER'S RESPONSIBILITY. Refund will come from USPS, not us. We do not sell 'on approval.' So please be sure of your bid. We strive for excellent customer service and want you to be one of our hundreds of HAPPY REPEAT CUSTOMERS. We want you to visit our site again and again, as part of your weekly routine.
