Really unique, this old face mug appears quite old. I'm guessing it may be a monk in a brown hood. His face has a light glaze, inside and the brown robe feel unglazed. Perhaps a bisque majolica. It was part of a collection of majolica and Staffordshire that I purchased so I assume it is Staffordshire 1850-1880. It reminds me of some Staffordshire tobacco face jars I saw online but of course he is missing a lid if that is what it is. He has an intentional hole in his mouth,... my husband made his pipe! It is marked on the bottom, 1197. No chips or cracks, please see all photos to judge condition for yourself and ask if you have any questions. 4.5" tall.
