Original Description:
This is a 16mm, color, sound film by Charles and Ray Eames called "House of Science " (1962).  Produced by IBM - with music by Leonard Berstein.  It runs about 14 minutes , has faded color- with some left (see photos), has very light lines/wear,   and 2 smooth splices.  A VERY nice print !!

"The House of Science" (an original film shown at the US Science Pavilion at the Seattle World's Fair). As the Official Guide Book/Seattle World's Fair 1962 describes it, ...it includes "Seven separate films, running simultaneously through seven synchronized projectors, cast seven images on multiple screens to make a single composite picture. . . . Science is seen as a house that grows a room at a time over many centuries in increasing complexity and size but with an essential, inherent unity of design."
Originally produced as a multi- screen introduction to the US science exhibition at the World's Fair in Seattle, WA in 1962.  This is the single screen version made by Encyclopedia Britannica for school classroom education.

After a brief intro - the film gets a bit more poetic -
“With a special kind of curiosity and a sense of elegance, the scientist uncovers hidden relationships. Science is essentially an artistic or philosophical enterprise carried on for its own sake. In this, it is more akin to play than to work. But it is quite a sophisticated play in which the scientist viewed nature as a system of interlocking puzzles. He assumes that the puzzles have a solution, that they will be fair. He holds to a faith in the underlying order of the universe. His motivation is his fascination with the puzzle itself—his method a curious interplay between idea and experiment. His pleasures are those of any artist. High on the list of prerequisites for being a scientist is. . .his ability and his desire to reach out with his mind and his imagination [the narrator whispers] to something outside himself.”This film equates a scientist to an artist, to a philosopher, to a curious explorer, and most surprisingly, to an ordinary person. What a relief it is to learn that, in a way, we are all scientists.
