The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951). 16mm Feature Film. Very Good Print.
Item History & Price
Classic sci-fi thriller with a powerful message that still holds up today. Paced perfectly by director Robert Wise with one of the all-time classic scores by Bernard Herrmann (utilizing 3 overlaid tracks of theremin to produce the other-worldly sound that later became the quintessential sound of 50s sci-fi.)
The physical print is very good. I was aware of no splices when watching it so if the...re are any, they are minimal. There is no warpage. I was told this was a reduction when I bought it and believe it to be. There are some lines, some occasional and some more persistent, but they are not severe and are usually on the sides of the frame. Please refer to the attached frames for typical examples.
There is no vinegar smell. It is printed on unmarked stock with a clear sprocket line and has a strong, clear soundtrack.
The attached screenshots are representative of the quality and condition of the print. Before high-res video, I used 3 excerpts in this film for my university film music classes. To mark their location, I ran a bit of white Sharpie on the very outside edge of the film for a few inches. These reference marks are very subtle, only visible from the side, and don't affect the film or its projection in any way. I mention this only so you will know what they are if you notice them.
The film is mounted on two 1600' reels and will be shipped in a film storage can. Shipping is via Insured Media Mail within two days of cleared payment.
I guarantee this print is as described. Contact within 5 days if it is not.
Happy viewing!
