Original Description:
Antique primitive marionette doll European origin possibly French... with papiermache painted head, fabric stuffed arms and hands and wooden body. I would estimate the date at approx late 1800s but I'm not an expert on dolls. The head has wonderful original paint with a very youthful child-like appearance which is odd for a clown doll... especially a sad pierrot style clown. The outfit appears to be navy blue and white polka-dot silk with red poms and lovely wooden sh...oes. Missing a few bits here and there and has honest wear and tear (the strings should probably all be re-done if keeping as a puppet) as most have broken but overall this was well-cared for... see photos they can describe it much better than I can here and please feel free to ask questions I'm happy to answer and can provide more pictures upon request...
