Looking at his floaty air to fakies it’s not hard to see why.Halfpipes had gone from hand shovelled 3ft walls to ‘massive’ 12ft backhoe sculpted transitions. Even though these days, superpipes are nearly double... this, it was a big step forward at the time and equipment was evolving to adapt to the changes.This years Air came with a new shape, which included a ‘full freestyle nose and tail’. They increased the edge contact length and added a quadratic sidecut to make climbing bigger pipe walls easier.‘Rider Response Flex’ was introduced along with the concept of pressure distribution. Up till this point the flex of a snowboard was much like a ski. The theory was to liven up the flex in between the bindings, which would increase the responsiveness of the board and allow for tighter turns. Add to your setup some ‘Bone Out’ ankle straps and a pair of ‘2-Tounge Freestyle’ boots and you’d be tweaking out the pipe like Brush in no time.
