Original Description:
Very small mid/late 19th century sampler by Isabella Hosie - 1872. Worked in wool on gauze, this little sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The upper section of the gauze is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, whilst the lower section contains two rows of sets of family initials with Isabella's name and the date of 1872 beneath.The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in places, and the c...olours of the wool are good with the odd stitch missing here and there. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colour would have looked when Isabella first stitched it.Measures 7 3/4" across x 7 1/2"
