17th C. Milanese bobbin lace edging - collector study piece. Classic meandering mirror-image stylized flower motifs. Although the piece is frayed, there are enough original areas to be able to see how ground, design, flower centers, and edges were originally made.Top edge formed directly with the meandering tapes/ribbons of cloth work that form the design going up to form the top edge very typical of Milanese. How flower center are formed sometimes also seen in Eastern European /... Hungarian laces derived from Milanese techniques.Background varied background mesh put in at different angles more typical of earlier laces.Condition poor - frayed and worn. See photos. Picot edge added later to the bottom edge. Clean, ivory / ecru. About 29 in. by 4 in.
