Rare: Original Vintage1966 Supreme Council Knights of Columbus Charter Document - Brooklyn, NewYork-Virgil Dechant-John McDevitt Beautiful, large format document announcingthe Knights of Columbus Supreme Council approval of the new St. Thomas AquinasCouncil No. 5797 and granted Charter. Classically written out in finecalligraphy and gorgeously decorated and great detail with the four symbols ofthe Knights of Columbus. "Charity, Unity Fraternity and Patriotism." Theletters "TF...MM" are embedded in the ornate border. It stands for"TEMPUS FUGET MEMENTO MORI" which is Latin for "Time Flies, Remember Death". This is a motto for the K of C to remind us that We WillAll Die Someday. This is hand signed by Vigil C. Dechant and John W. McDevitt.Description:- Original Knights of Columbus Charter - Hand Dated: February 8, 1966- For St. Thomas Aquinas Council No. 5797- Brooklyn, New York- Hand lettered in Calligraphy: "St.Thomas Aquinas Council No. 5797"- Hand written names in calligraphy of 42Original Charter Members.- Hand signed by Virgil C. Dechant who wasSupreme Secretary at the time and went on to become the 12th Supreme Knight ofthe Knights of Columbus from 1977-2000. Dechant escorted President GeorgeW. Bush to the funeral of Pope John Paul II.- Hand signed by John W. McDevitt who was the11th Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus from 1964-1977. As SupremeKnight he ended K of C discrimination against balck people in 1964 and movedfor the admission of women to the K of C.
Dimensions:21"W x 29 3/4"H Condition: Excellent - Beautifully cream white vintage paper.- Has been in a frame since 1966.- Is now rolled in a tube for safe keeping.- No wrinkles, creases or rips.- Small 1/2" water mark along the bottomedge of paper. Will easily frame out of view and does not come anywhere near ordetract from the artwork in any way.- Please see all photos.
