RARE Vintage Jesus Christ Sacred Heart Antique Spanish Statue. 18" with crown, 16.5" without crown. Approximate height, varies according to method of measurement. Made in the OLOT style and imported from Spain (note: no OLOT stamp). Plaster statue with glass eyes, brass crown (or aura), and wood base, with original polychrome painting. From the neck up, a lifelike and tender expression, downcast but with eyes full of mercy. The facial features are strikingly realistic, as is the hair a...nd beard, with warm fleshy hues not alabaster white. The brass crown is detachable. As is typical of statues of this age, although it's is in good condition overall, there are signs of wear and use. The face and head are notably free of damage. However, there's a hairline crack in the left wrist near the hem (see close-up photo). It may have been repaired in the past, but it now seems secure and did not fall off during transit from Spain. In addition, there's some paint loss and paint tarnish from the neck down. The white areas of the robe show some discoloration, and the Sacred Heart shows some paint loss near the edge. Those who prefer unmodified original vintage statues may admire the natural patina. Those who prefer a mint-looking statue may wish to have the statue repainted below the neckline. Overall, this is an antique work of art whose face is an astonishment in itself. Mid Century era. Circa 1940's.
