Here is a very nice Abbey & Imbrie Salmo fly fishing reel. This is a Shakespeare made trade real, very similar to their own model 1896, and made between 1928-34. The reel is right hand retrieve only, and features a very nice, fully in tact agate line guide. Dual spring v-shaped pawl is in great shape, as are the tension adjustment screws on the face of the reel. Spool play is minimal. Ivoroid winding knob is in great shape and turns freely. Reel ...foot is unaltered and riveted tightly. Cross pillars have good rivets as well. The reel winds smoothly and has a nice feel due to the 30 tooth gear plate, and you can adjust the tension as you please. Nice military green finish - it does show some paint wear, etc., but still quite a fine example if you're familiar with how these reels tend to age.
This reel is mechanically excellent, and very nice cosmetically as well. Reel diameter is 3 5/8" and weight is 5.6 ounces. Ideal for a 6-7 weight fly line and backing.
A much more scarce reel than the Shakespeare equivalent. This would make a fine addition to any collection, or pair it with a vintage rod and fish it!
