This opal chunk is beautiful, there is a bluish hue to it, though it is fully transparent, it is stunning, some flash can be seen in it's rough state. This opal will show much more flash when carved, sanded and buffed to a high shine. There are two types of opal in this chunk, transparent and semi transparent, not sure how far into the opal goes into the host rock......the opal usually settles in "pockets" within the rock, so you should explore this chunk, by slicing it into slabs to check for other "pockets" of opal....there will be enough opal for several cabochons, depending on the size! It appears that most of the weight of this piece is from the "host rock", but there could be more opal inside?
This opal is easy to work with and takes a stunning high shine, it is suggested when grinding, not to use a coarse grit 220, which will leave gouges, and increase your work. Instead use a fine grit grinding stone for all cutting and grinding, and nothing coarser than 320 grit sand paper, working your way to the fine grit sandpapers, or grinding stones. If you like it, you should use the "buy it now" button, as this type of opal usually attracts lot's of bidders.
