This is a pair of Scottish Terrier, Scottie dogs book ends. I had purchased them at the time that a nearby auction house was selling the authentic contents from Alfred Cheney Johnston's estate. They were not advertised as such, but through the months that they were selling items from his estate, there were many scottie themed items and these were sold at the same time that his items were being sold. They seem to be made of gilded bronze. A magnet does NOT stick to them. Each measu...res approximately 5" long X 4" High X 1.75" W (at the widest points). Each dog, on the bottoms of the paws - 2 are hollow but 2 have flush metal with a nail or screw through that bottom (see photos). The gold colored gilding seems to have worn off on at least half of the body, but I have not washed them lately (not sure if I did when I first got them). So there may be surface soil as well. They are in good pre-owned condition.
