The lighter was produced in Japan during the U.S. occupation (1945-1952) and distributed in America by Continental Co. of New York. The lighter is decorated with panels of abalone shell and... mother of pearl. The front of the lighter is also set with two hearts placed diagonally towards each other as it would be on a poker card. We note a small hairline in the shell decoration, as seen in Photo #4. There is still a length of wick still in the lighter. The lighter has not been tested but, judging by the lighter's clean appearance, we see no reason why it would not work once filled with lighter fluid and fit with a new flint.
