Vintage Seiko Large Asymmetrical Cushion Case 6105-8119 150m Divers Watch with All original parts (except new crystal installed and reproduction waffle strap added). The 6105-8119 Diver is one of the most collectible dive watches ever made with its legendary Seiko durability and beautifully legible dial. For many Dive Watch Collectors the 610...5-8119 is a Highly Prized Diver Watch for its Large asymmetrical Cushion Case and long history of use in the Vietnam War. The Seiko 6105-8119 was very popular with American GIs in Vietnam as the watch had a reputation for ruggedness and durability in the harsh Vietnamese combat environment. For authenticity Martin Sheen wore a 6105-8119 throughout the movie Apocalypse Now.
Even 40+ years after their introduction the Seiko 6105-8119 still has an amazing Wrist Presence and has become one of the Most Desired and Revered Dive Watches ever made. DIAL and HANDS: Original Dial is in Excellent Condition with No Signs of Wear - SUWA symbol under the WATER 150 RESIST Text. Very crisp and clear dial - one of the nicest Seiko 6105 dials we have seen. Rectangular Chrome lume wells and Raised Seiko Logo in excellent condition with no signs of oxidation or discoloration. Original hands are in excellent condition. The chrome on the Lume Wells and Hands are still bright and shiny (very clean and still polished) - about the nicest condition we have seen. Original lume material of the Hour Markers, Hands, and Bezel Pip Dot are in excellent condtion with no darkening or discoloration. The Lume on the Minute Hand is showing slight darkening/discoloration. Lume on the Spotlight Sweep Seconds is still a bright Orange/Pink color. Watch has not be Relumed. The watch lume still glows faintly at night but fades quickly as to be expected from a 48 year old watch. Lume Color, Brightness, and Fade Rate is consistent between the Dial, Hands, and Bezel Pip Dot.CRYSTAL: Crystal has been professionally replaced with the Highest Quality reproduction crystal available (a 1:1 exact copy of the original crystal) . New Crystal is a Type 2 which in our opinion looks best on the 6105 Diver Watch. The Type 2 is a Double Domed Taller Height Crystal that sits slightly above the Bezel. The Double Dome is Best for the viewing of the Dial - easy to read the Dial with No distortion and No distracting reflections that is seen with other Crystals. Crystal is in Mint/Flawless Condition with no scratches or wear. BEZEL and BEZEL INSERT: Original Bezel and Original Bezel Insert in Very Good Condition showing light wear from normal use. Bezel is Bi-directional (turns in both directions) and operates with solid clicks with no play or looseness. The action on the Bezel is excellent with a Solid Clicking Sound. New Bezel Gasket installed. Original Bezel Insert is in Very Good Condtion showing light marks and scratches from normal use. Paint on the Bezel Insert goes 80%. Lume on the Bezel Pip Dot matches the Hour Markers and Hands nicely. CROWN : Original Seiko Crown with Lock and Arrow working perfectly. Quick Set date/time change working correctly. Unique Non-Screwdown twist and turn action works as it should with 1/2 turn/twist to lock the crown in place.Crown area has the original small locking metal pin/post. After setting the time and date and pushing the crown back in - then 1/2 turn to lock the crown "in place". With many 6105-811X Divers the locking pin has been ground down over time and is no longer working as originally designed. Without a proper locking pin the crown moves freely once pushed in. The crown on this watch correctly "locks in place" place. CASE and CASEBACK: Original case and caseback is in Very Good condition showing normal wear from use. Watch has the Earlier and Highly Desirable Horseshoe Caseback. Case has not been refinished or polished and retains its original correct factory brushing with the original crisp and sharp case lines. There is normal wear to the case including light scratches and small nicks to the case around the crown area. Caseback markings are crisp and clear and has a serial number 150987 and was manufactured in May 1971 (Very Early Production). New Caseback Gasket Installed. MOVEMENT: Original Seiko 6105B Japan Automatic movement with Hacking is running strong and keeping excellent time. This is the earlier 6105B movement manufatured at the Daini Seikosha facility and has the early chamfered edges with polished edges. Always a nice Bonus to see this Earlier and Beautifully Finished Movement in a 6105-811X. New Case Back gasket installed. There is no service history available for the watch.Seiko Factory Specifications for the 6105 Automatic Movement are +/- 30 Seconds Per day and 36 Hour Power ReserveAccuracy - The Seiko 6105-8119 Diver was set to atomic time and recently timed for a 1 week period with variances from atomic time noted daily. Watch was running extremely accurate and consistently kept time at -5 seconds slow per day. This is considered excellent accuracy for any mechanical watch (new or old) but considering this is now a 48 year old watch - Exceptional. Please note that accuracy on any mechanical watch can differ based on how each individual wears or uses the watch during the day and how the watch is placed at night. Power Reserve - After the timing of the watch was completed the power reserve was then checked. After setting the watch down with no further movement the watch continued to run for exactly 49 hours before it stopped. Actual Performance for the watch: -5 Seconds Slow Per Day and 49 Hour Power Reserve. The watch movement exceeds Original Seiko Factory Specifications and would be considered running "Better Than New"WATER RESISTANCE: Watch has not been Pressure Tested for Water Resistance. It is never recommended using Older watches in water. Vintage Seiko Divers are highly prized and valuable and it is just not worth the risk. There are many new and inexpensive Dive watches available for sale if you want to use in water. DIVER STRAP: Comes with a New High Quality Reproduction Waffle Strap.
