I have plugged the unit in and tested it.
There is audio output when inserting a tape.
I have NOT tested the recording part since I do not have any blank 8 track tapes.
During testing, after inserting an 8 track tap...e, the sound speed varied for most of the 8 track tapes.
This more than likely could either be the tape (have not used them in quite a while) or possible a belt inside of the unit.
Since I do not want to dig into the cause, I am selling this item AS-IS with no returns.
As for the cosmetic condition there are some marks on the top and face plate.
