Antique Cornelius Kahlen, New York, Paper Currency Scale - Late 19th Century. Three foot iron stand supports the brass quadrant scale signed by maker at the top and calibrated in 2 segments. Cupped specimen holder is missing - other unknown parts may be missing. Nice aged patina. Scale moves easily as pressure is applied to arm. Approximately 6 pounds.This specialized scale would've been used in a paper mill or laboratory setting to indicate the equivalent weight in pounds in terms of ...a 500 sheet ream of paper.
