This early 1850's vintageoriginal James T. Scott, coin silver set of six spoons in the fiddle pattern have oval bowls andfiddle pattern stems and finials.The spoons have a monogramE. M. on the finials. The spoons are approximately: 1-1/4”W. acrossthe spoon bowls, and 6 1/4”L.The underside of the spoonsare clearly marked James T. Scott. They are in excellent condition with no dents damage or repair. Each spoon weighs 17 grams. These spoons were some of Scott's earlier works bef...ore he left for Wheeling in 1857.JamesT. Scott in 1857 went to Wheeling from Huntington, PA. The firm soonbecame known as James T. Scott & Company doing a wholesale andretail business. In 1859, William H. Hennegen, a native of Rochester, New York wentto Wheeling from St.Louis, MO andsoon became a partner with James Scott. In 1864, Hennegan opened awholesale branch of the company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that soon became known as Scott & Hennegen. The partnershipbetween Scott & Hennegen was dissolved 1869 with Hennegen takingover the Wheeling business and Scott taking over the Pittsburghbusiness with G. B. Barrett. The Pittsburgh business became known asScott, Barrett & Company. The Wheeling business kept by Hennegenwas joined by James O. Batesin 1886 and John D. Reynolds in 1869.
